Jonny
Manak & the Depressives’ newest full length “Cold Pizza & Warm Beer” is
a beautiful, innovative arrangement of never-before strung together jazz/folk chords
carefully plucked overtop low-key hand percussion, simple, earnest hush-spoken
croonery and subtle, nuanced up-right bass fingering. I kid. I kid.
Take
one look at the artwork, the band name, the record label, the album title…hell,
even the first song’s called “Vegass” for fuck’s sake…you pretty much know what
you’re in for and it’s a standard, snotty, punkrocking good time. If only they
coulda dipped each cassette in sweat and/or stale PBR…
